We Travel the Spaceways Reflection
I genuinely don’t know what to think about this short story. It was understandable and confusing at the same time. To my understanding the Pathfinders are similar to ancestors who have been trying to connect with their lineage. Grimace can hear their voices, but not interact with their physical forms. These guiding voices manifest themselves into bottles. Grimace burns down current places of worship like Churches and Mosques because they represent beliefs that have replaced the traditional beliefs and cultures (?) It seems to be a physical take on decolonization and deconstructing our current mindsets. I’m still confused on how you can travel to the Astral City, like is it physical travel or metaphorical? Because at the end, Grimace and Kim kiss, so I am assuming that love bridges the gap between the Astral City and Earth (?) Despite my confusion, I do understand the basis of the story: Healing from emotional slavery and connecting with your ancestors/ancestry.
